Since 2000, Banksia has developed strong links with visiting Japanese Health Professionals, who visit Banksia for palliative care workshops and clinical observation visits. As a result of receiving independent funding separate to their core budget, Banksia Staff have attended Japan annually since 2005 to deliver education and training to palliative care organisations. Banksia has also provided education in Kuala Lumpur in 2006.
Banksia is actively seeking grant opportunities as there is an opportunity to expand the relationships in Japan, due to the excellent foundations laid over recent years. This is a very exciting project for Banksia as there have been some wonderful relationships made.
In 2006, Banksia established a unique formal sister relationship with a palliative care organisation in Tokyo called "Pallium". Banksia is very proud of the relationships made with Japan. As ambassadors for Australia, there is a strong mutual respect of each others expertise and cultural requirements, in how each country delivers community palliative care services.

A significant event for Banksia occurred in October 2009, where Banksia formed a new Sister Relationship with Hospice Hawaii, United States of America, where a formal presentation and signing took place in Tokyo, Japan, in the presence of our other Sister Organisation, Pallium. Banksia is privileged to be undertaking a Tri-Nation Research Study with both Sister Organisations focussing on the differences and similarities of Volunteers in the 3 countries. . |
