Community Development

This is a newly created position to promote community awareness of the services Banksia provides.  Strong links have been made with the community via media links and formal presentations to organisations.  Banksia is always looking for opportunities to enhance communication of the specialist services it provides.

We welcome any organisation who would like a speaker to attend and provide a presentation of the services Banksia provides.

We have presented to local Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Seniors, Community Centres and Probus.

Many of these clubs are surprised as to the extent of the services Banksia provides and also of the large area Banksia covers.

As our staff and volunteers speak to any groups, the audience will hopefully become "champions" of Banksia to create awareness and much needed education throughout the community.

Our community focus is to empower our citizens to be aware of how they can others during a challenging time of their lives, to access the services of Banksia, in a timely and appropriate manner.   Please refer to "Referral" Heading on Main Menu.

The term, Palliative Care, is itself a difficult terminology for some people to deal with.  We are endeavoring to depersonalise the subject and encourage people to ask, "what they can do for a neighbor, work colleague, friend, relative or loved one", who may not be aware of the care and support available.

Where you as a sporting, business or community organisation are interested in being informed of the services provided by Banksia, please contact our Community Development Manager Tim Paul on 94972100 / 0407683821 or email timp@banksiapalliative.com.au

Fundraising Support In the Community

A role of the Community Development Manager is to supervise Banksia's wonderful fundraising support volunteers who are known as the "Friends of Banksia".  This small group of individuals have formed a group which helps with organising for example: Street Stalls, Trivia Nights, Film Nights and Sausage Sizzles.

Please refer to "Volunteers" Heading on Main Menu.

Banksia is always seeking to gain new members of any age.  Our emphasis is on empowering the and volunteers to do what "interests them".  For information, Banksia only has one or two raffles per year and there is very minimal resources utilised in that type of activity. Fundraising support is much more than "Raffles".  Our volunteers are all "champions" of Banksia in creating "awareness".

The ability for Banksia to not be able to attract fundraising support volunteers has been disappointing.  To date, the members of the "Friends of Banksia" have mainly come from a carers background, where they have an intimate appreciation of the services Banksia provides.
